What happens when there is a poor fit between the space you have and the needs of your program? When your effectiveness is reduced? When a lot sits empty? When a neighborhood starts to decline?

When an organization recognizes that its physical facilities - offices, schools, camps, churches - no longer enhance the delivery of programs, it may be time to step back from day-to-day operations. This is an opportunity to reassess the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the organization, and plan for its future direction. At the same time, the physical facilities may need critical attention and analysis.

Moshier Studio provides services to organizations and businesses with a vision for the future. The planning process begins with gathering information and active listening. Workshops bring key participants together to agree on the mission and vision, and define how the physical environment can enhance program or service delivery. You'll clarify your organization's mission, and whether current facilities complement that mission. We provide the technical and imagination support to your decision-making process.

Planning is a diagram of the future. Planning shows the steps that take us from now to then.

Planning for the built environment for non-profits often goes hand-in-hand with planning for a capital campaign. Moshier Studio provides cost opinions for building and site development to assist organizations in setting the campaign goal, and works closely with fundraisers to provide images and other collateral materials that become part of the case for support.

We use 3D modeling extensively to communicate to those who will use the space and those who will support it. This allows valuable input from those key players who may not spend their days reading blueprints.

Should every plan be built?

Some planning projects undertaken by Moshier Studio have resulted in a better understanding of obstacles, instead of shining light on a clear path ahead. Perhaps more time and resources will be needed, a different site should be identified, or the mission of the organization is not resonating with funders. Understanding that planning is as much a process as an outcome can result in a stronger solution in the long term.

However, most planning does result in new or improved facilities. Moshier Studio has implemented master plans for camps, schools and other non-profits. This process can extend over many years in the case of multi-building plans. Having been part of the visioning process from the start allows us as architects to react to changing circumstances, technology and budgets as the projects move forward.
